With both parents as opera singers, Louise Marie had a head start on most. There was never any question that she wouldn’t follow in her parents footsteps. The only surprise was into which area of music she chose to go.

Louise Marie’s first foray onto the stage was in musical theatre in Wellington, New Zealand with starring performances in;

Sweeny Todd, Godspell, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, The Ring Of Magic (Pantomime), My Fair Lady, and Nine.

Following this was one of her many musical highlights as lead vocalist on the popular talk back show ‘The Herd’ on NZ National T.V.

However Shortly after, Louise was drawn into the world of Jazz after listening to an early recording of Ella Fitzgerald (with Ellis Larkin on piano), entitled ‘Pure Ella’ …… Louise Marie Comments; “Ella showed me there is a freedom of spontaneity in Jazz music. Her honesty of expression, warmth and technical ability, to me, were awe inspiring”

It wasn’t long before Louise Marie coveted almost every Jazz Residency in Wellington singing 5 to 6 nights per week, only taking a break to take a role in a popular Cabaret Show; THE ADMIRABLE GERSHWIN.

Next Louise then crossed the Pacific to ‘broaden her musical horizons’…. Winning a popular ‘Leagues Club Talent Quest’ in Sydney certainly helped, opening the doors to regular club gigs on the main stage. Other music opportunities followed including jazz residencies at;

Hotel Nikko (now 4 Points), JB’s Bar – Darling Harbour, Tilbury Hotel, Jordan’s Seafood Restaurant, Park Royal, Romans Manly, Matilda Cruises, Thurles Castle – Surry Hills, Well Connected Cafe, and the Rocksalt Restaurant.

Corporate and Private functions also became a part of the schedule including;
Private function at the Late Rene Rivkins Residence, black & White tie ball for Fast Impressions, Americas Club – 40th birthday, Sir Stamford Hotel – wedding, Kirribilli House – wedding, Law Society Xmas Function, Melbourne Cup Day, and a 50th wedding anniversary just to name a few.

Another highlight in Louise Marie’s career was achieving lead singer for Sydney’s ‘Trocadero’ Jazz / Dance / Swing Orchestra (up to sixteen piece including a brass section). Big Band Jazz being another of Louise’s passions.

Quality Jazz as popular music has received a welcomed boost recently through high profile singers such as Michael Buble, Norah Jones, Amy Winehouse and Diana Krall. Soon we could be adding the name Louise Marie to that list.
